On To Bigger and Better Things~

Many people in the foreign language field decide to move on to bigger and better things. It's like catching a fever. Once you realize that there is so much more out there than just what's in your thirty mile radius, your goals start evolving. It's called becoming a Need Greater. Only in the past few years this term was coined by the Branch.

I have mentioned before, that working in a foreign field is almost equal to being a missionary without leaving your current city (situations vary). The SC Chinese group has the whole state, and even some of Georgia, for their territory. That is more than enough to keep us busy, right? But for some people, it still isn't enough. And for those preaching in the Chinese field, the fever is very contagious. Listening to experiences of those who leave the United States to live in another land fuel our hunger, to the point that being an at home missionary is just not enough.

You can say I've caught the bug. From the very beginning, thanks to the influence of Frank and Amanda, I knew China would be my end goal. One day I still plan to make it there. What can I do in the mean time?

Baby Steps.

I just recently attended my third Chinese Convention up north. With Frank and Amanda moving to Miami, this would be the first trip up there without them. Caitlyn had convinced me to fly as our means of travel. In my twenty three years of existence, I have never once stepped foot on a plane, so you can imagine my extreme anxiety. But let's not remember my end goal. So how am I going to achieve serving in a foreign land when I have anxiety about flying??? And thus I took a very important step in reaching my goals. Flying was not bad at all actually, except for the fact that the weather messed us up and had us arriving a day late in a whole other state than what we had originally planned. I found the experience quite fun.

Was that the only step I was able to take? Far from it.

Our dynamic duo were able to stay at a couples home, about thirty minutes (driving time) to the Assembly Hall (The Stanley Theater). Sounds great right? It most certainly was! The only issue we ran into was the fact that we didn't have a ride to the house, located in New Jersey while we had flown into LaGuardia. Caitlyn's Auntie and Uncle picked us up, but were only able to to drive us to the train station.

Flying was A-Okay because Caitlyn was a pro, and she had flown by herself in the past. But the train station was a whole new ball game for the both of us. If there was anything I was more nervous about, it would have to be navigation the trains and subways in New Jersey and New York. I am proud to say we made it to all our destinations during the course of that trip without getting lost. By the last day I had kind of got the hang of the train system. Caitlyn and I made a great team. I would handle the streets above the subways and she would handle which train we would take.

Are we ready to make it big? Only with Jehovah's help!

To become Need Greaters, you have to prayerfully consider EVERYTHING! Counting the cost is not just about the amount of money it takes to get there. And for my case, I have to consider my lack of independence. Baby steps are crucial for me to achieve my goals to become a need greater.
